The ace wants to stay!

Curt Schilling announced this week that he is not planning to retire after the 2007 season when his current contract ends. He has said that he wants to stay with the Sox and remain loyal, and importantly, that he would never even think about considering signing with the Yankees. A true dirt dog trait right there. He has made a demand though. All he wants is a simple extension of his contract into '08 for the Sox without any salary changes before the regular seasons starts. If no deal is made, he will become a free agent for the first time in his entire career.

This is great news for the Sox. Although I'm sure the managing staff were ready for Dice-K to shift into ace-mode next season, it means we can have two aces for two years in a row. A opportunity that the Sox should not overlook. Loyalty should be respected, Schilling has been an integral part of our Sox team for the past few years and hopefully will be able to end his career with us. Woo!

On an additional note, Schilling publicly endorsed GOP candidate and Arizona politician McCain for '08 presidency. He is planning on helping the McCain campaign as Curt did for George W. Bush.
