A new Boston legend... and he's a SuperFan!

Steve Aponavicius has become a legend in the town of Boston even if it is for only 15 minutes of fame. The unlikely kicker from Easton, Pennsylvania became the savior of Boston College's football season. Aponavicius last year was in the stands rooting for the Eagles to win it all, this year, he is on the field taking the crucial kick with only 3 seconds to go in the 4th quarter. This all takes place after a very closely contested game between unranked Navy and #23 Boston College in Charlotte, NC for the Meineke Car Care Bowl.

In the last five minutes of the game, the Eagles manage to pull themselves within 2 points of Navy and decide to go for the 2-point conversion and fail. Discouraged faces start to appear on the Eagles sideline as players are convinced that Navy will be able to run the clock down to win 24-22, however the defense does its job and is able to pass to the offense in good field position. With no timeouts left for BC, the offense had to hurry and managed to get as close to the posts as possible. Then up comes Aponavicius to kick a perfect 36yd FG right down the center to win the game 25-24.

What a great story, even after not playing any competitive football in his life, to get the chance to play on international television for his college. An honor. Gives hope to all us sports fans who never made it big first time round, there is still a chance for us to play... just be loud enough in the stands.

This makes the BC Eagles finish their season at 10-3 and a 7th consecutive Bowl victory. Congratulations to Boston College who are finding great success in only their second year as a part of the ACC. Hopefully they'll give Steve a scholarship now...
