Well the Sox are yet to win a spring game against a Major league team, but managed to win 9-1 when they played BC after Matsuzaka's first start. Just a quick update on the scores, apart from the BC game, the Sox lost again to the Blue Jays 6-9 and the Phillies 9-12 (after 10).
Ok, so Matsuzaka looked awesome apart from the first batter he faced which made Red Sox nation hold their breath when the leadoff, Johnny Ayers, made it to second base. After that though, he honed in and destroyed BC for the rest of his outing. He seemed to dominate the mound and show a lot of agression for a spring game. He made 25 pitches, 19 for strikes and got three strikeouts. Now that we have seen him for real, maybe we can let the team focus now... We've got a season to win.
Other news, Manny started against the Phillies in LF but only managed a strikeout. Wakefield made his first start of the spring, with a shaky first inning due to an error by Pedroia on a line drive eventually letting the Phillies score two, while striking out two over his 2 inning stretch. The standout player of the game was Jonathan Papelbon who started out of the bullpen pitching two innings, striking out four and not letting a man on base.
Tonight we will see Curt's second start of the spring against Twins ace Johan Santana, should be a game to watch. Hopefully we will get a win...
