Last night the Bruins looked to be onto a winner. Showing good agression and holding back the Senators for two periods. A penalty shot goal in the first by Sturm and a second goal by Mara had the Bruins up 2-0 at the first intermission. Then in the first, its broke down and the Bruins lost all focus. The Senators scored five unanswered goals including an empty net goal in the last two minutes of play making the final score 5-2. This again is showing the lack of endurance in the Bruins squad when it comes to winning at the 3rd period. Either the team gets cocky, or just decides to relax and the opposition is able to make the most out of it. With Toronto getting a loss to Carolina, the Leafs are now also out of the playoff birth as Washington and Tampa Bay have moved into 8th and 9th in the conference.
Also, Kessel made his return to the Boston team after having cancer treatment in mid-December. After playing just two games with the P-Bruins, the Boston team had their star rookie back on the squad.
However, the bubble is only a win away and the B's still have 4 games in hand. Not given up just yet, even if our only win in 2007 so far has been against the team with the worst record in the NHL. Next up is the Islanders who just broke their losing streak by winning 5-3 against cross-town rivals, the Rangers.
