The return of Boston NL?

As I am monitoring my three computers, currently in the Red Sox online ticket waiting room, I've been surfing some Boston sites for the usual news and nostalgia. Something I do quite often when I feel homesick. Anyways, in BostonOnline, it was suggested that there be an NL team in Boston. Now as a huge fan of the AL and of course, the quintessential DH, David Ortiz, I started to flip out with such a suggestion. Although a Boston vs. Boston interleague matchup might be interesting to watch, it worries me that we could potentially be battling our former baseball brethren in a World Series game.

Also, its incomprehensible to think that Sox fans that easily switch their alleigance. Lets think a second here, an 86 year World Series drought = loyal and strong fans, a new crosstown team = a herd of fickle sports fans? I think not. If us Sox fans stay together through the last century, no small ball, slow game loving entrepreneur can make us wear a different color B on our caps. In my opinion, its having only one team in the city that makes it so great. You meet a fellow Bostonian, the chances are, they are a Sox fan and straight away you have a common interest. The whole city comes together behind the team and creates a real sense of community. All I see a second team create is division.

After some debate on this forum, it was said that fans could follow and support both teams... seems a bit flawed to me. How many Cubs-Sox fans are there? Let alone Mets-Yanks. When it comes to baseball, and if you are a passionate fan, you don't two time your team.

Although a new stadium with a retractable roof may be appealing, there is no way I'm gonna choose that over the character of Fenway, and what's wrong with the recently renovated Garden for large concerts and winter events?

If New England HAD to have an NL team, I reckon it would be better if it was located in a different city, such as Hartford or Providence. There, local fans would have a better reason to switch alleigance because their new team would be closer and represent their state and city. Two Boston teams just seems awkward. If NL fans are desperate for a team to support, follow the Atlanta Braves, they originated in Boston... (Ruth above in a Braves jersey)

An NL team in Boston would just ruin the passion the city has for the Red Sox and fans that have been lifelong Sox fans may switch their allegiance because the new team is closer, Stupid I say. Keep the Sox as the only MLB team in Boston!
